How to find (and cook) plant-based meals that represent the world

It’s now May 2021 and the world is still in the midst of managing the COVID-19 pandemic. With multiple vaccines available (though not enough worldwide distribution), there is a glimmer of the ‘end’ of this era and hope for a return to global travel. Whether you are still sheltering in place or beginning to veer out, food is the one constant.

SustyTrip contains thousands of restaurants for select locations that specialize in local, organic, farm-to-table, plant-based, and other foods that represent a better, regenerative food and farm system.

World Veg Kitchen is one of the most inclusive, sustainable food sites that we have come across. Each week, blogger and chef Aneri cooks and highlights one plant-based dish from one country in the world. Starting with Afghanistan and continuing in alphabetical order, World Veg Kitchen beautifully displays a veggie meal and how to prepare it. It’s a great way to sample how various cultures use plants to delight the palate. For those looking for easy, quick bites, Aneri adds a difficulty level, 1-10, for each recipe that help users decide if they are up for the venture.

The intention of World Veg Kitchen is to “build a community of vegetarian and vegan travelers, showcase delicious authentic plant based dishes from all over the world, recommend amazing restaurants that Aneri has personally visited, and to invite people to experience and share the magic of global cuisine.” What’s really insightful about the blog is that you can literally go find out what the people in the happiest country in the world (Bhutan) eat, or how the Bajan version of “rice and peas” differs from others.

We’ll have to wait for all of the countries (or regions…there is still dispute over national borders) of the world to be covered to write about our favorite. Other plant-based recipe sites that we enjoy include On She Glows and Jessica in the Kitchen.
